March 24, 2011 is the 137th birth day of legendary American magician Harry Houdini. He was a Hungarian-born American magician and escapologist, stunt performer, actor and film producer noted for his sensational escape acts. He built his career on demonstrating the ability to escape from a huge variety of restraints and difficult situations.

Houdini often concealed the exact details of his escapes to maintain an air of mystery and suspense. He performed tricks such as Chinese Water Torture Cell and the Metamorphosis, which are essentially classic stage illusions reliant on cleverly designed props.

Chinese Water Torture Cell consists of three parts: first, the magician's feet are locked in stocks; next, he is suspended in mid-air from his ankles with a restraint brace; finally, he is lowered into a glass tank overflowing with water and the restraint is locked to the top of the cell.Dorothy Young, the last surviving stage assistant of Harry Houdini and an accomplished dancer, died just four days before his 137th birth day.

Google is up with a doodle to celebrate the 137 th birthday of this legend magician.
